On "Ikarus Rising," Georgia emcee D. Lanham links up with Illinois/California producer Ronesh. The finished product is 20 minutes of head-nodding, spirit-searching, psychedelic raw emotion. The dripping funk and heavy bass might recall Organized Noize; the smooth piano chops might nod to Pete Rock or the Molemen. The content varies - one moment, D. Lanham may be delivering a cautionary street tale; the next, calling for pan-African unity while questioning the nature of the afterlife.
